The musical genius behind Symbion Project is Kasson Crooker. While Symbion Project is Kasson’s solo enterprise, it is no surprise that his pseudonyms DJ HMX, Komputer Kontroller, and Cosmonaut Zero are just as mysterious and futuristic.
Kasson’s music has probably been the most remixed in both FreQ and Amp including songs from Freezepop. Although Kasson produces so much music, he has been a developer in the game industry most notably with Harmonix since FreQuency in which he was Lead Composer and Sound Designer. He also worked as Central Audio Innovation Director at Microsoft. Currently Kasson is creating music full time and is the owner and founder of Speed of Dark Music.
Since 1992, Symbion Project has been producing, mixing, and composing music in the cultivation of Splashdown, Freezepop, and The Planets Wont Let You Sleep Tonight. As an inspiration to many young musical artists of the FreQuency and Amplitude community, Kasson’s music carries a wide variety of musical scope that is very intriguing. Symbion Project's new album Semiotic is an audio and video collaboration between Symbion Project and Kevin McGinnis. Semiotic releases on July 14, 2015 and will feature Concept, which is his song in the new Amplitude.
It’s no secret that Kasson’s sound has permeated every inch of our minds, penetrated the very depths of our souls and infiltrated the very fiber of our being. His wide range of skills captures you in an interstellar stranglehold, gripping you with fear and excitement of the unknown. His futuristic sound ranges from blippy, robotic and fun to dark, melodic and organic in nature. Like a switch, Kasson has the ability to kontrol his sound by using a variety of personas to represent his multitude of styles. His signature QY-70 synthesizer is well-known to the community and is considered to be a relic. The mere presence of this device leaves us all begging to be synthesized.
